Our Training Approach
BiHyu Martial Arts follows a traditional Korean martial arts framework adapted for modern community-based programs. Training emphasizes balance, coordination, body awareness, respect, and progressive skill development rather than competition or aggression.
Training includes traditional stances, weapons fundamentals, and coordinated group practice to develop focus, posture, and collective awareness.
-
Programs are organized by age and developmental stage to ensure safety, engagement, and appropriate learning pace. Training expectations increase gradually as students mature physically and cognitively.

OUR PROGRAMS
Tiny Tigers (Ages 5–7)
Tiny Tigers is an introductory movement-based martial arts program designed for young children ages 5 to 7. Classes focus on developing balance, coordination, listening skills, and basic body awareness through structured, age-appropriate activities.
The program emphasizes safe movement, respect, and positive classroom behavior while introducing foundational martial arts concepts in a playful and supportive environment. Techniques are adapted to the developmental stage of each child, with an emphasis on learning through repetition, routine, and guided instruction rather than physical force.
Tiny Tigers classes are designed to support early physical literacy and social development and are well-suited for community centers and after-school programs.
Youth Martial Arts (Ages 8–12)
The Youth Martial Arts program offers structured traditional Korean martial arts training for children ages 8 to 12. Classes focus on improving balance, coordination, mobility, focus, and self-discipline while introducing progressively more technical movement skills.
Students are guided through a structured curriculum that emphasizes safe practice, body control, and respect for others. Training expectations increase gradually as students develop greater physical awareness and confidence. Progression is designed to encourage consistency, effort, and personal responsibility rather than competition.
This program supports healthy physical development and positive character building in a structured group setting and is suitable for delivery through community centers and schools.
Family Martial Arts (Ages 8+ with Parent or Guardian)
Family Martial Arts classes provide an opportunity for children and parents or guardians to train together in a shared learning environment. This program focuses on fundamental martial arts movements, coordination, balance, and controlled partner activities appropriate for mixed-age participation.
Classes are structured to ensure safety and accessibility for all participants, regardless of prior martial arts experience. The emphasis is on cooperative learning, communication, and shared physical activity rather than advanced techniques or sparring.
Family Martial Arts classes help strengthen family engagement, encourage healthy movement habits, and support positive role modeling within a structured and respectful environment.

A Structured, Safe, and Inclusive Training Experience
BiHyu Martial Arts programs are designed to provide a positive, structured movement experience rooted in traditional Korean martial arts principles while remaining accessible and appropriate for community-based environments.

No forced sparring or high-risk activities
Progressive instruction based on age, ability, and experience
Emphasis on body control, awareness, and mutual respect
Adaptations are made to accommodate different physical abilities
Programs are suitable for delivery in community centers, schools, after-school programs, and adult wellness settings.
Expectations for Students and Families
Participants are expected to:
Follow instructor guidance and safety rules
Treat instructors and fellow students with respect
Attend classes regularly to support learning and progression
Wear appropriate training attire as specified by the program
Families and participants are encouraged to communicate openly with the instructor regarding any concerns, injuries, or special considerations.
No prior martial arts background, fitness level, or athletic ability is required.
Progression & Development
Progress within BiHyu Martial Arts programs is based on:
Consistency and participation
Effort and personal improvement
Demonstrated focus, respect, and self-control
Gradual development of physical awareness and coordination
The emphasis is on long-term growth and positive habits rather than rapid advancement or performance-based ranking.
Progressive Physical & Technical Expectations
While BiHyu Martial Arts programs are non-competitive and non-aggressive, students should expect a gradual increase in physical and technical demands as they progress through the curriculum and belt levels.
As students advance, training places greater emphasis on:
Speed, timing, and reaction
Balance, coordination, and posture
Precision, control, and technical detail
Focus, consistency, and movement quality
Increased conditioning appropriate to age and ability
Higher ranks are expected to demonstrate greater physical engagement, improved endurance, sharper awareness, and more refined execution of techniques.
Training remains controlled and safety-focused at all times. Advancement does not require full-power striking, uncontrolled self-defense scenarios, or high-risk throwing techniques. Students are challenged through structured repetition, increased complexity, and higher technical standards while maintaining safety and control.
